Robolink’s iKeepSafe COPPA and FERPA Certifications
We’re excited to announce that we’ve earned the iKeepSafe Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) Safe Harbor and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Certifications. These data privacy certifications show that Robolink has been independently assessed by iKeepSafe, a leading privacy protection organization trusted by families, educators, and the educational technology community.
Why Privacy Matters
iKeepSafe certifications are must-haves for educators and parents alike looking to protect student privacy. By taking proactive steps according to state and federal requirements, brands like ours can safely continue to partner with schools, competition teams, and makerspaces to advance learning in a digital culture.
As a team of former educators who have collectively taught over 20,000 students, we have always taken student security and privacy seriously and have built these kinds of protections into all of our experiences–like our Basecamp lesson portal. Now, whether your goal is to build students’ computer science and STEM skills or prepare them for any future career, you can be assured that our products and experiences meet the highest standards for privacy, safety, and security.
“We congratulate Robolink on earning the iKeepSafe COPPA Safe Harbor and FERPA Certifications! Their commitment to this process clearly shows their dedication to safeguarding student data,” said iKeepSafe President Amber Lindsay.
COPPA and FERPA in a nutshell
What actually are these privacy and protection acts? Why are two certifications better than one? We’re breaking down the basic differences and a bit of the history of COPPA and FERPA below:
COPPA is a U.S. law that protects kids' online privacy by requiring parental consent for data collection from children under 13. COPPA was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on October 21, 1998 and became effective on April 21, 2000.
FERPA is a federal act that ensures parents' rights over their children's educational records, including access and correction. Gerald Ford signed FERPA into law on August 21, 1974.
